I didn't experience any performance loss. I even experienced a little performance gain! VMWare Workstation let Vista RC1 crash just once and that was because I was modifying memory settings of a virtual machine, while another was shutting down and I had no system memory left. Vista crashed with a blue screen of death, rebooted and asked me to do a memory test. I did, it booted, did the test and found no errors. So overall I'm still pretty enthousiastic on Vista RC1 and VMWare Workstation running together.
